Dave's Megaphone Moment

Today’s guest contributor is Mr. Dave Rudbarg.

I met Dave at Landmark Education where he led a workshop for people in a leadership program from 1997 – 2000.

In the workshop, Dave taught me how to see the first impression I was making on people, and in my case, how to change it. We both laughed when he told me, but I will be reported if the words are printed here.

Although we now live in different states, we have always found our way back and forth to each other throughout our relationship. We have remained close friends and can pickup right where we left off.

Dave’s mission in life is to inspire self-expression as an access to a world where everyone belongs.

His other purpose is to get attention.

Dave wears several hats.
He is:

·    a Barista at Starbucks.
·    a singer who released his 1st album last year, Living in the Land of Yes.
·    an established relationship coach with clients from New York to Japan.
·    a student of transformation.
·    great at connecting people who have common interests.
·    thankful to God for creating Facebook,
otherwise he would never know anyone’s
  birthday besides his own.
· an occasional jerk

Dave is, according to him, a typical Aquarian male. His interests run the gamut from 60’s soul, to pro-wrestling, to transformational education, to watching NCIS.

He believes, that at the most basic level,
Integrity + Gratitude = Miracles

Dave’s own words:

“In the last several years I have altered my relationship to spirituality and my body. In other words, I am a former atheist who prays every morning and a former 334 pound man who now works out 3-4 times a week and weighs approximately 90 pounds less."

I have amazing people in my life. I am passionate about relationships, and passionate about men and women knowing and celebrating their differences.

As a result of my working at Starbucks, I have had the opportunity to connect with individuals who are “well known”, and who have shown themselves to be some of the most open, giving, and humane people I’ve met.

In terms of my own relationship status, I’m a King looking for his Queen.”

"My Megaphone Moment"

Over the last five years, I have had the honor of being on a number of "Men's Panels”, as part of some courses facilitated by PAX.

There is a moment at the end of the course, where each man is offered a "megaphone moment" to say something to all the women of the world.

Here's a few thoughts I'd like to offer to women:

·    Because you want to sleep with a man, does not mean he's a good man. It just means sexual chemistry is present.

·    You will continue to be disappointed unless you pay attention to this.

·    Sleeping with a man very early on does not create intimacy. It creates drama and a false sense of relationship.

·    This will ultimately piss you off and reinforce your past conversations about trust.

·    If you don't have any women friends whose lives are working- get some new friends ASAP.

·    Looking for a man who is the opposite of your ex-is small, petty, and limited, not to mention a guarantee of failure.

·    Want to find a man with an amazing heart? Look for a man who has a commitment to being of service. In other words, go volunteer for something you care about.

·    Ask people you see every day, who you have never talked to, something about themselves.

·    Opening up your heart in one area will open it in others as well....

I accepted this invitation from Kimberly for two  reasons.

1.My commitment to make a difference in the world.

2.I like attention.

This blog satisfies both needs.

SNL's Best Moments in Food and Drink

The most memorable sketches featuring food and beverages

This is a OMG! ROTFLMAO! post for you today. It features videos of the funniest sketches on Saturday Night Live.

I am sure you will remember these. They are snortingly hysterical:

• The Olympia Restaurant - This legendary sketch features John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, and Bill Murray as the impatient owners of a Greek diner that only serves cheesburgers, chips, and Pepsi.

• Duncan Hines Brownie Husband - This commercial parody struck a chord with single women everywhere. A spoof on the wave of microwavable single-serving desserts being touted by companies like Duncan Hines, the life-size Brownie Husband makes for the perfect companion. The short features shots of Tina Fey romantically embracing, and then devouring, her fudge-y lover.

• Schweddy Balls - Alec Baldwin has hosted (and made cameos on) SNL so many times that it's almost easy to forget that he's not a member of the regular cast. This sketch, which features him alongside Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer, is undoubtedly one of his most memorable. Molly and Ana play the hosts of a fictional NPR show called "The Delicious Dish" and Alec plays Pete Schweddy, a bakery owner who specializes in preparing a variety of dessert balls. Plus now, thanks to Ben & Jerry's, fans of this sketch can get a taste of Schweddy Balls-flavored ice cream for a limited time.

• The Bass-O-Matic - Dan Akroyd stars in this one as a salesman promoting the wonders of his new product, the Super Bass-O-Matic '76. Why roast, grill, or poach a bass for dinner when you can pulverize the whole fish in a customized blender?

• Zagat's - Comedy power duo, Chris Farley (in drag, no less) and Adam Sandler demonstrate the peak of marital bliss as Hank and Beverly Gelfand in this sketch. As the host of "Zagats", bubbly Beverly flips through the restaurant guide and reads descriptions of the places that sound interesting to her disgruntled husband.

• Hamm and Buble - This piece features Jon Hamm and Michael Bublé as the owners of a new restaurant serving a variety of pork dishes and sparkling wines (get it?). Jon Hamm describes the elegant experience that Hamm and Buble diners are sure to enjoy while Michael Bublé covertly describes the nature of the pair's working relationship through song.

• Colon Blow - In this spoof on commercials for high-fiber breakfast cereal, Phil Harmon plays a man who finds out that the average high-fiber cereal he's been eating is truly no match for Super Colon Blow.

• Taco Town - Taco Bell may combine hard and soft tacos in items such as Crunch Wrap Supreme and Cheesy Gordita Crunch, but only at Taco Town can you get a taco that's also wrapped in a pizza, crepe and pancake — oh, and it also comes served in a promotional tote bag.

• Coffee Talk with Linda Richman - Mike Myers stars as Linda Richman, a stereotypical Jewish woman from New York who is the host of a show called "Coffee Talk". The sketch was a recurring bit on Saturday Night Live, but the most notable moment included Madonna and Roseanne Barr as Linda's friends who get exceptionally "verklempt" when their idol, Barbara Streisand makes a guest appearance on the show.

• Pepper Boy - Seasoned pepper grinder, Marco (played by Dana Carvey) teaches the newly hired Carlo (played by Adam Sandler) the art of being a pepper boy. Marco goes table to table and sensually adds fresh pepper to plates of diners at the restaurant.

Have a great day today.

The Mysterious Life of Burgers 'n Fries

Happy Friday to you!

Yesterday we were honored to have a special guest contributor on My Soul in Shoes. Dawn Lerner wrote an exquisite  piece about her mother, Rose, who had passed several years ago.

Today I realized that I committed  a huge disservice to Dawn, and our readers. I didn't introduce her. It was an injustice to Rose as well.

I should have told you how I knew Dawn and what a special person she is. It would have been nice if you knew this prior to reading her piece. Maybe you would have connected with Dawn on a different level. Perhaps it would have given you a different and/or deeper reading experience. I apologize to all for neglecting to do so.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda... that's what we humans say.

I'm declaring a DO-OVER!

Here goes:

I would like to introduce you yesterday's special Guest Contributor, Dawn Lerner.

Dawn lives with her husband and family in sunny, Miami, Florida. She is an optician and an avid collector of all things vintage. Dawn owns a business called Attic Eyewear where she carry's the most OMG TO DIE FOR  unique, hand picked, guys and gals vintage eyewear.

Wow, what a coincidence! It just so happens that I collect, (and wear), a lot of vintage frames. I purchased them all from Dawn.

I have never met Dawn before, nor had I ever spoken with her. Wait, no...I did speak to her once when  I had a question about a frame I ordered. I asked her to be a contributor because I already knew I would like her and anything she wrote.

When I invited her to be a guest on our blog, she got really excited! As you will see when you (re)read her piece, she had no idea what she was going to write about, but she was a YES anyway!

YAY for YES's !!

Dawn is a unique individual. Her passion for sharing vintage sunglasses and eyeglasses with the Universe is unparalleled . She views life as magical. Just like Dorothy did after her house fell on the Wicked Witch of the West, when Dawn looks out, everything is in vivid color.

The inside scoop is she's interested in fashion, reading, animals and yoga. Two of her favorite books are Harry Potter  and The Alchemist. It's impossible for me to tell you what her favorite music is because her palette spans the globe. Her favorite movies are Harry Potter (no surprise), and James and the Peach.

This is who she is and how she rolls.

This is why I love her, and why I am honored to call her my friend.

I WISH I WROTE THIS YESTERDAY. I DIDN'T. MY APOLOGIES TO DAWN AND OUR READERS BECAUSE  IT WAS DROPPED OUT.

Now that you know who Dawn is, please go and  re-read her post before continuing on!!

Roses Sometimes Never Die.

And now:
BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMING

The Mysterious life of BURGERS 'N FRIES

There's this guy I know from a long time ago. He was a pretty cool dude, as we used to say. Sometimes he and I would hang out together. Occasionally we shared an ice cream cone or two. Or three. (I wonder if that's why I crave ice cream so much?)
Anyway, we were friends.

I remember this one time in particular.....we still laugh about it today. But I digress...

At his request, I am not able to reveal his identity, so I will call him  - Agent 88.

Ding, ding, ding, ding!!!!...........

Agent 88 is this week's Mysterious Mystery Guest!

About a month ago I  extended an invitation to 88 to be a guest contributor here. (I can call him 88 because I'm his friend, but he's Agent 88 to you.)

I explained to him he could write about nothing in particular, or everything. Anything he wanted BUT, it had to be something that he was passionate about. I wanted it to come from his soul.

His response: "I don't have anything to write about. What's the purpose of a blog anyway? I don't really understand the point of writing one."  Blah, blah, blah.
I rolled my eyes a few times, but I wasn't going to get my knickers all in a twist over it.

Me:  It will be easy-peasy.
88:   No thanks.
Me:  It doesn't have to be about some "thing". It can be about
whatever. When it comes up, just write about it.
88:   No thanks.
Me:  C'mon, it's really easy. C'mon...just do it. C'mon...
88:   I'll talk to you later...

That being said, a few days ago I get an email from him.
Well I dee-clare, it's a story for the blog. Who'd a thunk!

So without any further ado, I'd like to introduce him to you. Lord knows I don't want to have another do-over like yesterday.

I have known Agent 88 for 40 years. Yea, that's right. I knew him before I was born. It's pretty crazy to think we are still friends after all this time. Although our lives have taken different paths,  we have still managed to keep in touch.  Once a friend, always a friend. He's a very good friend.

Agent 88 was born in _____ but is currently living in _____.
He lives with his wife, _____, _____ and _____. He uses an iPhone for work, although I'm not sure if it is a 3 or 4.
88 is an extraordinary, loving, caring, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, brother and friend. Try to say that three times fast.

Since he was a little boy he has been interested in all things athletic. You name it, football, baseball, basketball, golf, and I'm not positive, but I think tennis, swimming and volleyball  too. Badminton? Not so much.  (I'd call to verify but it's too late at night.) He works out at the gym a minimum of 3x per week. He doesn't need to go to the barber too often anymore so he has more free time to participate in his community. He is very committed to that.

Agent 88 admires and applauds those who have been blessed with a special talent and those who overcome incredible odds to achieve success. He values determination, persistence, honesty, hard work and humility. He is not willing to sacrifice ethics for the opportunity to make money and he is extremely successful.  In addition, he has a great sense of humor. LOL!

88 is a true American in every sense of the word. He loves our country and salutes those who have served to protect our freedom.

You're probably asking yourself "Geeze, is there anything the dude doesn't like?"
Yes. He abhors arrogance and any sense of entitlement.

Agent 88 is an avid reader. He loves watching movies, either at home or in the theater. Some of his all time fav films are The Shawshank Redemption, Saving Private Ryan and Ferris Buehler's Day Off. (I love that one!) His iPod is full of classic rock, country and R&B. He used to watch American Bandstand. He will definitely be peeved because I told you that.

He doesn't think he is hip but I think he is a rockstar.
Did I mention he is a good friend?

TMI?? I think not. After all, I've collected a lot of  evidence on him over the last 40 years. Now that I think of it, he would have made a good catch. But I digress once more...

This is what he wrote. I call it

BURGERS 'N FRIES

Roses Sometimes Never Die

I was honored when I was asked to be a guest Blogger for “My Soul in Shoes”.  I had rather grandiose ideas on what I wanted to share and how I wished to express myself, the verbiage to choose, then…the blank page…I’d struck a wall!

I could not write one word.

I wanted to share how much my mother Rose, is a daily part of my life and how her life is an inspiration to me in everything I do as an adult… BLOCK.

I wanted to possibly write some poetry as I used to do, sharing my words with rhythmic ease and deep meaning…. NOT.

I was literally struck with worry that I would have nothing meaningful to share with Kim’s readers. Then I looked around and thought, Dawn you are a logical person, what is stopping you from being able to express yourself? Why can you not type one word as I do for my own Blog daily? I realized that my problem was that I had exerted so much pressure and wasted energy on what the words were going to be, that I could not come up with even one word. Not one thought could I realize?

Logic stepped in again to show me that it is not about the words you are typing, it is the message you want to send.

Just is Life… we many times stifle ourselves with the monotony of what needs to be done daily that we lose the meaning of the message.

                    So here is my message…

Let the rhythm of life not pass you by
Realize that life is endless…Roses sometimes never die
Be armed as the warrior you were meant to be
Not merely with WORDS but empathy

Express yourself as the child that you once were
Find your magic and allow true happiness to occur
Shout your message with all the meaning you hold so dear
Who is listening shall not matter for it is truly YOU
                                that must HEAR

Be Your Own Logosm…
Dawn
